This video not only showcases my work, but connects to my early artistic training the beautiful space that is ‘Dandy' in so many ways. I understand after being a stylist for decades, my artistic eye and manual dexterity were developed and sharpened upon those very floors. Thinking about generational divides, I became more focused and deliberate. This painting asks: are the polarized generational thoughts necessary to each other to uphold the neoliberal balance?
For an old person like me, time turns and returns, becoming the self that constitutes and reconfigures the self. In this way, in any moment, one can be eighty and a version of the self at twenty.
For many of us, the near simultaneity of experiencing a multitude of selves at different points on the life-course, which are created over time, traces of former selves are not lost but are difficult to uncover completely, overlayered by selves created to the present moment.
Through age and hopefully maturity, we become more rich and fully rendered here by a bloom, instead of a bud.
